The Horror Writers Association has added a 'Graphic Novels' category to its Bram Stoker Awards.

According to Robot 6, the announcement was made at the World Horror Convention in Brighton last weekend.

Founded in 1987, the Bram Stoker Awards honour outstanding achievement in horror fiction. Previous winners include Stephen King, Clive Barker, Dean Koontz and Peter Straub. 'Screenplay' and 'Young Adult' categories are also to be added to the annual event.

The awards previously featured a 'Best Illustrative Narrative' category, which was discontinued in 2004. Winners include Neil Gaiman for The Sandman: The Dream Hunters and The Sandman: Endless Nights, Alan Moore for The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 1, and Jai Nitz for Heaven's Devils.

The additional categories will be incorporated next year.
