Hugo Award nominees announced

The shortlist has been announced for the Hugo Awards, recognising work in science fiction and fantasy.

The winners will be revealed in September at AussieCon 4 in Melbourne, the 68th World Science Fiction Convention.

The nominees in the graphic novel category are Paul Cornell and Leonard Kirk's Captain Britain and MI13 Vol 3: Vampire State, Neil Gaiman and Andy Kubert's Batman: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader, Bill Willingham and Mark Buckingham's Fables Vol 12: The Dark Ages, Kaja and Phil Foglio's Girl Genius Vol 9 and Schlock Mercenary: The Longshoreman of the Apocalypse by Howard Tayler.

This is the second year in which graphic novels have been recognised at the awards.

Last year's winner for best graphic novel was Girl Genius Vol 8.

The Hugos have been presented annually since 1955. The full list of nominees is available on the official website.
