Presenting its white paper on the state of the comics industry at the C2E2 convention in Chicago, the publisher revealed that sales were down in the US and Canada from 2008, reports ICv2.
Comics sales diminished by 3% and graphic novels by 6% between 2008 and 2009.
The overall decline was 5%, seeing a drop from estimated sales of $715m (£467m) to $680m (£444m).
Overall book sales fell by 3%, according to Nielsen BookScan.
The decline is partly attributed to the global recession, as well as to the unprecedented sales of Watchmen in 2008 due to the hype surrounding its movie adaptation.
