Tokyopop has acquired the rights to release English language comics based on the manga property Hetalia: Axis Powers.
Known for its comedic and politically incorrect take on history, the series focuses on Germany, Italy and Japan throughout World War II.
"In Hetalia, no country is spared from the satire," said publisher Marco Pavia. “When I read the first comic one evening - while waiting for the water to boil as I was preparing to cook pasta - I found myself laughing hysterically.
"Because I grew up in a somewhat international household, where I could imitate quite a number of accents, I find it better to embrace what makes us truly unique."
Originally issued as a webcomic, Hetalia has also been adapted as an anime series.
Axis Powers: Hetalia is released on September 10.
