Howard 'Howie' Post dies, aged 83

Comics and animation veteran Howie Post has died at the age of 83.

Post died last week, reports News From Me. He had been suffering from Alzheimer's.

He was born in 1926 and was producing work for the majority of New York's major publishers by 1945.

Post wrote and occasionally drew a vast number of stories for Harvey Comics, creating Spooky and Little Hot Stuff and contributing to the well-known Richie Rich and Casper the Friendly Ghost.

He was best known for his animal comics, including work on DC's More Fun Comics and Marvel's The Monkey and the Bear.

Post was also known for his work in animation, firstly at Famous Studios. He was made creative head of Paramount's cartoon studio in the early '60s.

His syndicated strip The Dropouts ran from 1968 to 1981.
