The title is about a police officer called Jon Griffin who finds himself caught in the middle of a viral outbreak in New York City which is turning its residents into flying gargoyle creatures. Jon must attempt to help the city while finding his estranged son before he catches the virus himself.
Lodell revealed to Comic Vine that the inspiration for the series came from an idea for a comic-to-screen project that ended up too high-budget for film.
"The concept was, initially, the skies above Manhattan filled with gargoyles!" Lobdell told Comic Vine.
Lobdell believes that the title is very different from other similarly-themed titles, and believes that this is characteristic of much of Aspen's current publishing schedule.
"Honestly, I think Aspen is way more diverse than people give it credit for. I think the exciting thing about Aspen is how different it is from itself!" Lobdell explained.
Scott Lobdell is known mostly for his work on Uncanny X-Men and for conceiving acclaimed teen X-Men series Generation X.
