Oni Press has announced a new miniseries from Joe Harris and artist Brett Weldele (The Light, Surrogates).

Spontaneous, which was unveiled at Comic-Con, follows the adventures of a cashier in a mall's food court who sets out to prove the existence of spontaneous human combustion.

"For Mel, this is all personal," Harris told CBR. "On his third birthday, he watched in helpless horror as his own father collapsed to the floor and burst into flames.

"He's been determined to prove his father's death wasn't due to some bulls**t explanation conventional investigators usually give to these sorts of hard to explain cases like the 'wick effect' or 'static flash'. Only thing is, nobody takes Melvin seriously."

Harris's other work for Oni includes the Ghost Projekt miniseries and The Hashihashian, an original graphic novel that was also announced at Comic-Con.

Spontaneous will launch early next year.
