Scott Snyder is to shoulder full writing responsibilities on American Vampire following the departure of Stephen King.

According to Newsarama, King's contribution to the Vertigo comic concludes with issue #5, making way for the book's second arc.

From issue #6 onwards, the story will begin to introduce new characters but continue to focus on protagonists Skinner and Pearl.

"I'm sooo excited about the next cycle, but I understand there are going to be some things that are different about the book, like Steve not being one of the writers, and the comic dropping to 22 pages," said Snyder.

"What we really wanted to do was introduce new characters and broaden the mythology, but still really stay focused on Skinner and Pearl."

Snyder will continue to work on American Vampire alongside his upcoming run on DC's Detective Comics, which commences in November.

American Vampire #6 will be available in August.
