Asterios Polyp and DC Comics event Blackest Night head up the 'Best Comic Book or Graphic Novel' category alongside the likes of Chew, Scalped and The Walking Dead.
Wolverine writer Jason Aaron, Green Lantern writer Geoff Johns, and Invincible scribe Robert Kirkman have all been nominated for 'Best Comic Book Writer'.
Grant Morrison's long time collaborator Frank Quitely received a nod in the 'Best Comic Book Artist' category alongside acclaimed Batwoman artist JH Williams III and Casanova penciller Fabio Moon.
The 'Best Comic Book Movie' category is a contest between Iron Man 2, Kick-Ass and The Losers.
Newsarama reported on the nominations and noted the absence of any significant Marvel Comics works on the Scream list.
The awards ceremony is famed for its strangely named categories, which in the past have included 'Most Memorable Mutilation' and 'Holy Sh*t Scene of the Year'.
The awards show, aired on Spike TV, will take place in October.
