Fantagraphics Books has acquired the rights to William S. Burroughs's only graphic novel.

The Naked Lunch writer's Ah Pook Is Here was created in the 1970s in collaboration with artist Malcolm McNeill.

It was first serialised as a monthly strip in the British magazine Cyclops. When the magazine folded, Burroughs and McNeill attempted to publish the completed work as a graphic novel but failed to find a publisher.

The book tells the story of John Stanley Hart, a William Randolph Hearst-like figure who unleashes the fury of Mayan death god Ah Pook during an attempt to achieve immortality.

Ah Pook Is Here will be published in summer 2011.
