Liu will co-write the relaunch of Daken: Dark Wolverine with previous Dark Wolverine writer Daniel Way, as well as helming the launch of X-23's first solo ongoing series.
X-23 is a female teen clone of Wolverine who first appeared in the X-Men: Evolution animated series, while Wolverine's wayward son Daken first appeared in Wolverine: Origins.
"They're nothing like Wolverine - or rather those traits of him that are most iconic are subverted and the reader sees what could have been," Liu told CBR of the two lead characters. "Those two are Wolverine's 'what if?"
Liu revealed that X-23 will focus on the titular character discovering her place in the world following her role as part of the death squad X-Force.
"She's messed up, honestly," Liu continued. "While she was part of X-Force her life was defined by 'the mission."
"Laura's relationship with Hellion will be explored," Liu promised. The two former New X-Men characters, whose love affair has been relatively forgotten in recent years.
She also teased that both X-23 and Daken will meet up at some point in a potential crossover between the two titles.
"We gave a taste of that in the recently-released Wolverine: Road to Hell, but even that doesn't give a real sense of the rich, intense storyline that we're planning," Liu claimed, but didn't give any further information as to when this storyline may feature.
Daken: Dark Wolverine #1 was released last week and X-23 #1 will be published September 15.
