Marvel Comics has revealed that their all-star superhero team The Illuminati will return this December.
The group will reunite in the pages of Avengers #8 following the conclusion of the current 'Kang the Conqueror' storyline.
The team initially comprised of the most powerful members of the Marvel Universe, and included in its ranks Iron Man, Mr Fantastic, Professor X, Black Bolt of the Inhumans, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and Doctor Strange.
However the Illuminati has not officially appeared together since the 2008 event Secret Invasion, after it was revealed that Black Bolt was an alien imposter.
The return of the Illuminati will see Black Bolt's widow Medusa take his vacant place in the team, alongside all the original members except Namor.
Marvel has not commented on why the group has been forced to reunite, with the team ordinarily only meeting to discuss important events within the Marvel Universe.
Avengers is published this December.
