Other cities have been courting the event as the 2012 termination of its lease neared. The event is now confirmed to remain in San Diego until 2015.
"We are grateful for the tireless efforts all three cities put into to their proposals," said Comic-Con’s director of marketing and public relations, David Glanzer.
"In the end, we feel this decision is the best for all those who attend Comic-Con and for the organisation itself. We are happy that the community has worked with us to ensure that we remain here."
Concerns about overcrowding had led to speculation that Comic-Con would quit the city where it was founded in 1970.
