DC Comics have released details surrounding the relaunch of their classic anthology series Weird Worlds.

The first issue will feature a number of separate stories from creators including Aaron Lopresti, Kevin VanHook, and Kevin Maguire.

Newsarama reports that, although classic antihero Lobo will star in VanHook's segment, both Lopresti and Maguire will focus on original creations.

Lopresti's story will follow a friendly monster called Garbageman who will have "the classic elements of a Muck Monster story - once a man, now a monster."

Weird Worlds was originally published by the company between 1972 and 1974 in a run that only lasted ten issues before cancellation.

Lopresti confirmed that if the initial six-issue series is successful it will be followed be a second mini-series soon after.

Weird Worlds #1 is scheduled to be published in January 2011.
