Kurt Busiek has announced that he is working on a follow-up to his acclaimed 2004 miniseries Superman: Secret Identity.

Busiek is currently in the writing stages for Batman: Creature of the Night, which will feature artwork from John Paul Leon.

The original series followed a Clark Kent who lives in a world where Superman is only a comic character, and the follow-up series will adopt a similar premise, focusing instead on Batman.

"It's not exactly a sequel because it doesn't follow the same characters, or even take place in the same world," Busiek explained to Newsarama. "I call it a thematic sequel - it's a natural companion book.

"Where Superman: Secret Identity was much more about self-identity and science fiction, Batman: Creature of the Night is a lot more about horror and dark things."

The writer claimed that he has been keen to tell this story ever since writing Secret Identity. He also confirmed preliminary plans for a Wonder Woman miniseries.

Batman: Creature of the Night is currently unsolicited with a release expected sometime in 2011.
