According to ICv2, the distributor has terminated the retailer's account because of overdue vendor payments.
The move is expected to have a significant impact on the comic industry since several major publishers distribute their wares through Diamond, and Borders is one of the world's largest book chains.
Rumours suggest that Borders Group is on the verge of filing for bankruptcy due to ongoing financial problems, though a recent report in The New York Times states that the firm is close to securing refinancing from GE Capital and other lenders.
Diamond handles bookstore distribution for Dark Horse, IDW, Image, Dynamite, Oni, Top Shelf, Udon and several other major comic publishers.
