DC Entertainment's chief creative officer Geoff Johns has revealed that he will write a new Aquaman series later this year.

It was confirmed at MegaCon, held this weekend in Orlando, that the Green Lantern writer will be heading up a relaunch of the character following the conclusion of his current maxiseries Brightest Day.

"Announced at Megacon: After Brightest Day I'll be moving over to a new book," Johns wrote on Twitter yesterday. "Aquaman #1 coming later this year!"

Aquaman returned to life during Blackest Night last year, and has since starred in one of the more well-received segments of Brightest Day.

An artist has yet to be named for the title, and it is currently unknown whether Aquaman will be an ongoing or limited series.

DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio had previously hinted that the company has big plans for the character.

Aquaman's last ongoing series, Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis, ended in 2007 after 57 issues.
