It was announced earlier this week that the Daken: Dark Wolverine writer will pen a three-issue Fear Itself: Uncanny X-Force series alongside the ongoing Uncanny X-Force series.
Williams claimed that the miniseries won't directly tie in to the events of Fear Itself, but will instead focus more on what happens when people actually begin to believe that the world is coming to an end.
"It seems to the people of earth, from the actions of the main Fear Itself storyline, that this may well be the end of the world," Williams explained to Newsarama. "That type of climate can lead people to extreme actions."
The writer explained that an extremist cell of regular X-Men villains the Purifiers begin to believe that superhumans have caused the Book of Revelations to come true, a point of view which causes X-Force to re-evaluate their stance.
"X-Force will find themselves considering that maybe the Purifiers, as askew as they are, have a point," Williams continued. "Maybe the superhumans, and their lapsing moral centre, are responsible for bringing about the end of the world.
"The question of whether or not X-Force should exist in the first place is central to our storyline," the writer added.
Uncanny X-Force launched in the wake of last year's Second Coming event, and features an unsanctioned team of dangerous mutants including Wolverine, Deadpool, Fantomex, and Archangel.
Fear Itself: Uncanny X-Force begins in July.
