Written by Rob Williams, the plotline kicks off with The Iron Age: Alpha and plays out across a series of one-shots, CBR reports.
The storyline sees a scientist, who was fired by Tony Stark, rebuild Doctor Doom's time machine and use it to summon Dark Phoenix, who destroys the planet. Stark escapes using the machine and embarks on a mission to right things, spanning various eras of the Marvel Universe.
"'The Iron Age' is a big love letter to the Marvel Universe," said Williams. "There've been a lot of moments in the writing of this that have had a sort of 'Eeeeeeee!' fanboy feeling to them and a lack of dignity for a man my age.
"My mantra all the way through this was that this can't be fan fiction. There has to be a protagonist journey and an arc. It can't be nostalgic trolling through the past... I think people are going to be surprised by what happens to Tony Stark as he goes through this. The goal is to see how this matters to him as we drive through this."
The event was unveiled during Marvel's 'Next Big Thing' conference, where it was also announced that Williams has signed an exclusivity deal with the publisher.
'The Iron Age' kicks off with The Iron Age: Alpha in June and concludes in August with Iron Age: Omega.
