Earlier this month it was announced that No Heroics writer Drew Pearce had been hired to pen the film's script, surprising fans who had expected Black to both write and direct due to
his track record as a popular screenwriter.
However, according to Cinema Blend, Black will still be involved in the scripting process for Iron Man 3, working alongside Pearce.
A source claimed that Disney was worried about the director's track record with violent films and made the decision to split the writing duties between both Black and Pearce to ensure the film remains family-oriented.
Black was announced as the new director for Iron Man 3 in February, after previous director Jon Favreau dropped out of helming a third instalment in favour of taking on Disney's Magic Kingdom.
Iron Man 3 will reunite Black with lead actor Robert Downey Jr for the first time since the two worked together on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005.
Iron Man 3 is currently expected to hit cinemas on May 3, 2013.
