Brian Michael Bendis made the announcement on Twitter, expressing his excitement at working on his first full collaboration with the iconic Green Lantern artist.
"Here's a real announcement: New Avengers #16.1 me and LEGEND Neal Adams," Bendis tweeted. "The return of Osborn!"
Adams is widely credited with pencilling some of the most definitive modern day interpretations of many DC Comics superheroes, and also contributed art to the classic Marvel crossover The Kree-Skrull War.
Although New Avengers #16.1 will mark the first full collaboration between the two creators, Adams previously penciled the cover art to Bendis's Avengers Finale in 2005 before the series relaunched as New Avengers.
Despite claims that Marvel was disappointed with the performance of its 'Point One' initiative, Marvel's SVP of Publishing Tom Brevoort insisted that it has been a "massive success" for the company.
"The 'Point One' initiative has done terrifically for us," Brevoort explained. "Many of them have performed at a level slightly higher than the monthly issues, and even the weakest of them sold at around the level of a monthly book."
New Avengers #16.1 is expected to be released sometime in September.
