The second title in the newly unveiled 'Ultimate Comics Reborn' line will be written by celebrated writer and recent Marvel exclusive Nick Spencer (Morning Glories, Secret Avengers) and artist Paco Medina (X-Men).
Running alongside Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic's Ultimate Comics Ultimates - which was announced earlier this week - the title will follow on from the events of 'The Death of Spider-Man' and July's weekly Ultimate Fallout.
Spencer said that the Ultimate Universe has a greatly reduced mutant population following Ultimatum. His new title will be set in a world similar to the classic 'Days of Future Past' setting, where citizens are instructed to shoot mutants on sight.
"There are still a number of mutants that we all know and love still out there," he said, listing Jean Grey, Bobby Drake, Kitty Pride, Rogue and Jimmy Hudson. "This will largely be Kitty and Rogue's book."
Spencer said that the young team have "been through so much" in recent years. "Most of what motivates the action in this book, rather than saving the world, is really about saving each other."
Ultimate Comics X-Men will debut in September.
