Dominion: Dinosaurs Versus Aliens is being developed by Liquid Comics, first as a book and then as a screenplay, which will both be written by the Batman Inc scribe, reports Deadline.
The movie will be directed by Sonnenfeld, who is best known for his work on the Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith-starring Men in Black series.
"Growing up, my fascination was all things dinosaur, and as an adult, I've had some success making films about aliens, so this is a dream come true," he said.
The graphic novel reveals the untold story of a world war in the distant past where surprisingly intelligent dinosaurs drove off an invasion from outer space.
The project will be produced by Sonnenfeld, Liquid Comics' Sharad Devarajan and Gotham Chopra and Arnold Rifkin of Cheyenne Enterprises.
Morrison has previously worked with Liquid on 18 Days, and will be reunited with his collaborator on that project, Mukesh Singh, who will also provide the artwork for Dominion.
Sonnenfeld is currently working on Men in Black 3, work on which has reportedly been held up over issues with the script.
