The fence surrounding Superman creator Joe Shuster's former Cleveland home has been damaged by a car.

Large metal plates reprinting Action Comics #1 were ruined when a neighbour drove into them on Tuesday night, reports The Plain Dealer.

The man has offered to pay the $2,600 (£1,600) cost of replacing the seven panels that were damaged in the crash.

Earlier in May, an aluminium plaque was stolen from the nearby home of Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel. The marker commemorated the creation of the Man of Steel by the two high school students during the Great Depression.

The historic marker has since been left at the Glenville neighbourhood fire station.

It was thought that the thieves took the plaque to sell for scrap, mistaking it for bronze because of its colouring.

Action Comics #1 features the first appearance of Superman and holds the record for the most expensive comic ever sold.
