Osama Bin Laden is to return from the dead in an upcoming issue of Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon.

The plot sees the al-Qaeda founder's corpse come into contact with radiation, resurrecting him as a Godzilla-like monster bent on destroying America, USA Today reports.

"Radiation is the cure-all. You get some of that stuff and life is good. In the real world, you get diarrhoea and your hair falls out. But in comics - boom! - you're brought right back to life," said Larsen.

"There's not really going to be anybody going, 'Whoa, don't hit him!' He's kind of a (jerk), let's throw that out there."

Savage Dragon has previously featured political figures such as George W Bush, George Bush Sr and Barack Obama. Historic figures, including Adolf Hitler, have also appeared in the comic, as have God and the Devil.

Larsen went on to say that he expects to receive criticism for including Bin Laden in the book. "It's not like this is ancient history and we're looking at pictures and most of the people are dead and gone," he added. "This guy did evil crap recently."

Bin Laden will appear in October's Savage Dragon #177.
