Stan Lee has laughed off reports that he was rushed to hospital after falling ill at San Diego Comic-Con.

The veteran comic book writer and former Marvel Comics executive confirmed that he was perfectly fine in a phone interview with TMZ founder Harvey Levin.

Lee began: "I've got to tell you - it'll be very embarrassing if I get sick and have to go to the hospital after I've denied that I'm sick and in the hospital, because then nobody will believe it. It'll be like the boy who cried wolf!

"But at the moment, I'm at the Comic-Con. I just finished the greatest sandwich and I'm about to leave to do some interviews."

Lee continued: "I don't know how the hell [the] rumour got started, but I'm awfully glad that people are that concerned. I feel kind of good about it."

When Levin asked if the rumours could have started when Lee reportedly rushed off stage during a panel, he responded: "No, no, I've been doing interviews with this Japanese rockstar Yoshiki for the past two or three hours... the only rushing we did was from one set of interviews to another!

"I don't understand how this [happened]. Maybe there's another guy with a name like mine or something. Hey, there's a guy that always imitates me! Maybe he's the guy."

Lee - who is at Comic-Con for the debut of Blood Red Dragon - finally quipped: "I'll try not to go to the hospital and make us both seem like liars."
