Marvel Comics has released a teaser hinting at the debut of a replacement character for Thor.
The image features an unknown character wielding a mystical hammer along with the tagline: "Tanarus: The New God of Thunder!"
Tanarus will officially make his debut in The Mighty Thor #8, although no further details about the storyline have been revealed.
Thor is currently embroiled in current company event Fear Itself, which sees an old Asgardian villain called the Serpent return to take over Earth.
The Mighty Thor launched earlier this year from the creative team of Matt Fraction and Pasqual Ferry, while Thor was relaunched by Kieron Gillen as Journey Into Mystery.
The recent Marvel Studios film Thor, starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Anthony Hopkins, is due for release on DVD and Blu-ray on September 13 in the US and on September 26 in the UK.

The Mighty Thor #8 is to be published in November.
