The Sara Pichelli illustration depicts Peter Parker's successor Miles Morales in his superhero garb.
Morales was unveiled as the new Spider-Man in the Ultimate Universe following Parker's death during a battle with the Green Goblin in Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #160. The character made his debut in Ultimate Fallout #4.
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1 is written by Brian Michael Bendis with interior artwork from Pichelli. The debut issue's standard cover design is drawn by Kaare Andrews.
The unveiling of Morales as the new Spider-Man has attracted press attention due to his half-black, half-Hispanic heritage. Some media outlets also suggested that the character may be gay, rumours which Marvel later dismissed.
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1 arrives in stores on September 7.
