The series will launch this September as part of 'The New 52', DC's company-wide reboot, and will be penned by Bedard with artwork by Tyler Kirkman.
"Green Lantern: New Guardians is about Green Lantern Kyle Rayner pulling together a team from each of the seven different ring corps," Bedard told Comic Book Resources. "We'll come to discover that Kyle is the only Lantern from any corps who can pull it off.
"Kyle's an artist because he's open to other viewpoints and to the whole range of emotions and experiences.
"This is at the core of who he is and it will prove invaluable as he must relate to those who wield fear and rage and love the way he wields willpower."
The New Guardians lineup features Rayner alongside Yellow Lantern Arkillo, Orange Lantern Glomus, Blue Lantern Saint Walker, Red Lantern Bleez, Indigo Lantern Munk and an unknown member of the Star Sapphires.
"We will definitely be expanding on the Green Lantern universe, delving into the things that make each corps unique and cool," Bedard added.
DC's 'Big 52' will also see the launch of three other Green Lantern-related series, including Green Lantern by Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke, Green Lantern Corps by Peter J. Tomasi and Fernando Pasarin, and Red Lanterns by Peter Milligan and Ed Benes.
Green Lantern: New Guardians #1 will be published on September 28.
