The publisher has directed its detractors towards the age rating on Red Hood and the Outlaws.
Scott Lobdell and Kenneth Rocafort's title portrayed the alien princess as a sexually promiscuous individual with little recollection of her past partners.
"We've heard what's being said about Starfire today and we appreciate the dialogue on this topic," DC wrote on Twitter.
"We encourage people to pay attention to the ratings when picking out any books to read themselves or for their children."
In response to the title, fantasy author Michele Lee posted a conversation with her seven-year-old daughter about Starfire's new portrayal on iO9.
Red Hood and the Outlaws #1 is rated 'T' for teen, meaning it is aimed at readers over 12 and "may contain mild violence, language and/or suggestive themes".
Last week, Judd Winick defended the controversial sex scene depicted in Catwoman #1.
