The former Marvel president will be presented with the 'VES 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award' at the 10th annual VES Awards early next year.
George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Ray Harryhausen and James Cameron are among the previous recipients of the gong, which celebrates individuals who have made a "significant and lasting contribution" to the special effects field.
Lee is best known for co-creating Marvel's best known superheroes, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Hulk, and the Fantastic Four. He continues to write and mastermind new characters in his role as chief creative officer of POW! Entertainment.
He said: "As a writer there is nothing more rewarding than to see your creations brought to life on the screen and I am indebted to all of the incredibly talented artists who have contributed to my projects.
"Visual effects have played a pivotal role in the ongoing success of Marvel's characters and allowed fans to experience their stories in an entirely new way. It is truly a great honour to receive this award from the Visual Effects Society."
Lee will receive the VES Award at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on February 7, 2012.
