Marvel Comics has laid off 11 members of staff as part of a cost-cutting strategy.

The publisher made cuts to its editorial, production and digital departments in a move that multiple sources claim does not relate to the performances of the affected individuals.

Editors Alejandro Arbona, Jody LeHeup and assistant editor Rachel Pinnelas were among the redundancies. The layoffs come in the wake of the dismissal of chief operating officer Jim Sokolowski earlier this month.

Tributes to the affected employees have flooded in on Twitter and other social networking sites. Writer Matt Fraction Tweeted that Arbona will continue to edit his Icon series Casanova.

Former Marvel employee Jim McCann also confirmed that Lucchese will work on his upcoming Image Comics project Mind the Gap.

CBR speculates that the total number of layoffs could rise to 15. Marvel is yet to confirm this figure or comment on the redundancies.
