Company head David Steinberger told Newsarama that the popularity of comiXology apps on platforms like iTunes has helped ensnare new readers.
Comics by comiXology was the top-grossing iPad app on the App Store throughout September. Its performance has been partly attributed to the success of DC Comics' 'New 52'initiative and the popularity of the Walking Dead brand.
Steinberger said: "The 'New 52' did really, really, incredibly well for us. But at the same time, we continued to do, percentage-wise, even better on titles like Walking Dead. I don't mean better in terms of units. I mean better as a percentage.
"That indicates to me that we're reaching people who are aware of pop culture, and into TV and movies and videos, and they're on the iTunes store and they're like, 'Oh, cool, comics! Let me check this out! Hey look! Walking Dead!' It's a signal that they know what that is.
"It's always been an indication to me that we're reaching a new audience."
comiXology is the market leader in the digital sector, The firm recently announced that it had reached an agreement with Marvel Comics to bring its titles to Android devices.
