The Batgirl scribe announced at the MCM London Expo that the project will feature a story she intended to tell during her Birds of Prey run, prior to the publisher's relaunch.
"I've had a great time doing it, I have a son, he was a teenager, I have brothers, my son had friends, my husband was a teenage boy. I like writing different characters, look at the body of my work, you'll see different characters, ages, sexes, ethnicity," she said of writing teen characters.
"I've tried to write comics and projects that will appeal to a wide audience, and bring newer readers in who may not read typical comics."
Simone is best known for her work on Secret Six and Wonder Woman, in addition to Birds of Prey. She currently serves as co-writer on The Fury Of Firestorm alongside her role penning Batgirl.
Full details of Simone's teen superhero project are expected to be announced soon.
