The October releases fell on average by 6%, less than half the typical decay between the debut and follow-up issues of a new series, reports ICv2.
14 of the titles enjoyed increased sales for their second issues.
Jeff Lemire's Animal Man earned the highest increase with 14%, followed by Detective Comics and Swamp Thing at 7%.
Superman and Blackhawks suffered the biggest drop-off at 26%.
Catwoman and Red Hood and the Outlaws - the first issues of which both attracted their share of controversy - both increased in sales by 6%.
Direct market sales of comics and graphic novels topped $40 million (£25m) in October for the first time since September 2009.
