Marvel teases Watcher story from Ed Brubaker

By
Ed Brubaker will be working on a story involving the Watcher in the future.

Marvel Comics' editor-in-chief Axel Alonso revealed that the Captain America writer will soon be doing a lot more with the character.

Brubaker wrote the framing story for the new Point One anthology, which featured the Watcher.

"The way it happened is, [senior vice-president of publishing Tom Brevoort] suggested that a framing sequence for Point One that would underscore the interconnectedness of the stories and figured who better to do that than the Watcher?" Alonso told Comic Book Resources.

"He tapped Ed to write the story because - spoiler alert - the two of them had recently been talking about the Watcher.

"Hmmmmmm... what could that mean? Don't be surprised if we come back to that story at some point in the near future."

The Watcher (or Uatu) is a member of a powerful race of aliens charged with observing Earth but never interfering.

He first appeared in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's original run on Fantastic Four, where he famously broke his oath in order to prevent the destruction of the world by Galactus.

The appearance of the Watcher is used in Marvel comics to flag up events of significance and great danger to the Earth.

Point One was released earlier in the week.
