'Infestation 2': IDW takes inspiration from HP Lovecraft

Infestation 2 will be inspired by the works of HP Lovecraft.

IDW Publishing has explained its plans for the upcoming crossover sequel.

"Where we're headed is into Lovecraft territory this time," said IDW chief creative officer Chris Ryall during a conference call. "For many reasons, we felt Lovecraft's monsters... amp up the threat."

The storyline will launch with a one-shot from writer Duane Swierczynski (Birds of Prey) and artist David Messina (True Blood).



Ryall said that the first Infestation and the sequel were devised as ways to draw all the publisher's series into a dimension-spanning threat without having to force all their diverse properties onto the page at once.

Infestation 2 will spread across IDW titles G.I. Joe, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Danger Girl, 30 Days of Night and Dungeons & Dragons.

HP Lovecraft was a writer of horror fiction in the early 20th century. Little recognised during his lifetime, his tales of cosmic horror - particularly in the 'Cthulu Mythos' - went on to be hugely influential in a broad range of horror, fantasy and sci-fi film, literature and comics.

The original crossover saw legions of zombies and robots attacking the various universes.

Infestation 2 will launch in January.
