Comics by comiXology currently leads the way in the category, followed by the official apps from DC Comics and Marvel Comics, according to figures from AppData.
The official Walking Dead app also claimed a space in the top ten, coming in eighth. All four of the digital comics apps on the chart are powered by comiXology, a firm which has also enjoyed success on the overall iPad leaderboard.
"It's great to take a moment and reflect that one of our big goals of being a leader in the comic book industry has been met," said comiXology CEO David Steinberger. "But that doesn't mean we can rest on our laurels. All I can say is… you ain't seen nothing yet!"
During October, it was reported that Comics by comiXology held its position as most downloaded iPad app for six Wednesdays running.
comiXology apps are available to download for home computers, iOS, Android and Kindle Fire in the US.
