The former Harris Comics executive has parted ways with the firm to pursue a career in software with San Francisco-based tech company The Apollo Group.
"I've worked with the most talented and dedicated artists, editors, talent managers, designers, sales force and staff in the industry. They don't get anywhere near the credit and respect they deserve," Alimagno told Bleeding Cool.
"I will miss doing what I could to help them not work 60-hour work weeks. Comics is in my blood and I don't think I'll ever be completely be out of the industry, but it's just time for a new challenge."
Alimagno joined Marvel in late 2009, having previously served as editorial director at Harris, for whom he oversaw the publication of its popular Vampirella title.
Marvel Comics is expected to appoint Alimagno's replacement in the comic weeks.
