The Ultimates artist, who has worked with the publisher for a decade, revealed via Twitter that he is pursuing new projects in 2012.
"In two days time, an amazing decade at Marvel closes for me," he wrote. "What a wonderful time to have joined the party. Very proud and honoured."
Hitch went on to pay tribute to his Marvel colleagues, including Ultimates scribe Mark Millar, senior editor Tom Brevoort and colourist Paul Mounts. He also teased a major announcement for January 3.
"So naturally new horizons beckon. Boy ate (sic) they something. See you there," he added.
Earlier this year, the artist provided illustrations for Marvel's Point One anthology and appeared at Millar's Kapow! Comic-Con.
Hitch's new venture is rumoured to be a creator-owned venture, expected to be confirmed via Twitter in the New Year.
