DC Comics' 'New 52' flagship title shifted more than 361,138 and went through five printings since its launch at the end of August, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The publisher dominated the end of year chart, despite losing its marketshare advantage to Marvel Comics in December. Batman #1 and Action Comics #1 took second and third place respectively.
Ultimate Spider-Man #160, in which Peter Parker was killed off, was Marvel's top-selling comic of the year, shipping 159,355 copies in June. By contrast, DC's second and third placed entries both shifted more than 250,000 units.
The report notes that the figures represent distribution level, rather than retail level. However, the top-sellers' multiple print runs suggest that they are also selling out in comic book stores.
Marvel's 2009 release Amazing Spider-Man #583, which featured a cameo from Barack Obama, remains the bestselling comic of the last ten years with 530,500 issues shipped.
