Brian Michael Bendis and Walter Simonson will team up on Avengers.
Legendary creator Simonson will provide art for the six-issue arc that ties into the Avengers vs. X-Men event miniseries which begins in Avengers #25.
"This is truly one of the things that's excited me most in my time at Marvel," Bendis said at Marvel's Next Big Thing conference call.
He revealed that he had met Simonson at a convention when he was young, and he had continued to send Bendis letters of encouragement over the years.
"I'm in comics myself because of [Stan Lee and Jack Kirby], and the stuff they were doing in the '60s," said Simonson, saying it was "a real treat" for him to eventually work at Marvel on Mighty Thor.
"The thing about the Avengers that was fun for me, is I got to write it for about a year with John Buscema and Tom Palmer, which was cool for me for the reasons it's cool for Brian now."
The arc will focus on the events of Avengers vs. X-Men from the Avengers' perspective.
Bendis has revealed his plans to end his long run on Avengers later in the year.
Avengers #25 will be released in April.
