The writer and DC Comics co-publisher re-evaluated his style when working on Aquaman #1.
Digital comics readers tend to focus more on each panel due to the nature of the navigation, he explained to Variety.
"It's weird to go back and look at some of the old comics now," he said.
"If you read something in this fashion you will notice stuff that you skipped over so quickly because your eye takes in the whole page instead of the panel individually. I think that's probably one of the biggest advantages of digital."
DC's New 52 relaunch saw the publisher transfer all its titles to print and digital simultaneous release.
Johns currently writes Aquaman, Green Lantern and 2011 top-seller Justice League for the publisher. His Batman: Earth One graphic novel will also debut this year.
