Editor-in-chief Axel Alonso has said that 2012 will see the publisher focusing on Nova as one of "a few characters worthy of more recognition".
"For 'cosmic' to matter, it has to be relatable," he told Comic Book Resources.
"For Nova to compete with Spider-Man, Captain America and Wolverine - and we'd love him to - his story has to touch your heart and it has to be grounded in things you can recognise and understand. If the stakes of a Nova story only matter 'out there' in space or on some far-flung planet, then no amount of good craft is going to help us reach an audience larger than the hardcore cosmic fans.
"The challenge, of course, is to make a story that appeals to new fans and embraces old fans, and I think we've cracked that nut."
Nova was one of the stars of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's extended run on the intergalactic corner of the Marvel Universe.
The hero was presumed dead but recently reappeared in the pages of the Point One anthology. The circumstances of his return remain a mystery.
