Kevin Smith 'turned down Before Watchmen'

Kevin Smith has claimed that he turned down the opportunity to write Before Watchmen for DC Comics.
The Red State filmmaker told Bleeding Cool that he held talks with co-publishers Jim Lee and Dan DiDio about contributing to the prequel.

"Talked to Jim and Dan about it two years ago. Only passed because I'm not Alan Moore, sadly. If I was Alan Moore, I'd be all over it. As Kevin Smith, I'd likely just make Bubastis 'big p***y' jokes and have Rorschach wet himself," he said.
DC announced Before Watchmen earlier this week. The project will consist of seven inter-connected miniseries - Rorschach, Minutemen, Comedian, Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl, Ozymandias and Silk Spectre.
Creators including Brian Azzarello, Darwyn Cooke, J Michael Straczynski and original editor Len Wein will collaborate on the venture.
Before Watchmen is slated for release this summer.
