Bleeding Cool claims that DC Comics is searching for a successor to Jim Lee on the title, but notes that the role may not commence for several years.
The website also states that the publisher has approached creators commonly associated with Marvel Comics with a view to filling the position.
Lee currently works on Justice League in collaboration with writer Geoff Johns, who is expected to remain on the title indefinitely. The duo have served as the comic's creative team since it was relaunched last August.
It was recently confirmed that Warner Bros has appointed Gangster Squad screenwriter Will Beall to pen a screenplay for a Justice League movie.
DC is yet to announce that Lee is to step down as Justice League illustrator.
