'X-Men' wedding 'originally planned for Alpha Flight'

By
Astonishing X-Men's same-sex wedding between Northstar and Kyle Jinadu was originally to appear in the cancelled Alpha Flight title.

Alpha Flight artist Dale Eaglesham has hit out at Marvel Comics in the wake of the much publicised event, criticising the publisher for not using the storyline to keep the discontinued series running.

He wrote on his blog: "This drives me absolutely crazy: Greg [Pak], Fred [Van Lente] and I do all the work of bringing the series back and they cancel it on us. Why didn't they let US do the wedding 'event' which is clearly garnering attention, to stimulate readership [and] perhaps keep Alpha Flight going?

"This p*sses me off. Oh no, let the 'X' books do it, as if they don't get enough attention. Sigh… This wedding was in the works on AF."

The wedding, which took place in issue #51, attracted criticism from conservative Christian group One Million Mums, who launched a protest against the storyline.

Alpha Flight was upgraded from a maxi-series to an ongoing title in August 2011, only to be cancelled two months later.
