Jeff Lemire revealed that the Vertigo character will feature on his DC Comics title from September's issue #0 during the DC Comics: Tales From The Dark And The Edge panel at San Diego Comic-Con International, reports Comic Book Resources.
The revelation ends the speculation that the writer caused after he said that the series would be introducing a Neil Gaiman-created character during June's HeroesCon.
Gaiman created the four-issue Books of Magic miniseries in 1990. It went on to spawn an ongoing series and various other spinoffs.
The move follows a trend in returning Vertigo characters to the mainstream DC Universe which began in the 'Brightest Day' storyline. These include Swamp Thing and Justice League Dark team members John Constantine and Shade, the Changing Man.
Amazon lists a new hardcover edition of the original miniseries for release in 2013.
Gaiman has announced a return to his legendary Vertigo title The Sandman with a six-issue, JH Williams III illustrated miniseries.
