Shadowman is expected to return to Valiant Entertainment's comic book universe.
The publisher has released a darkened image depicting what is believed to be the outline of the character, prompting rumours that he is on hand for a comeback.
Created by writers Jim Shooter and Steve Englehart, artist David Lapham and inker Bob Layton in 1992, Shadowman was a voodoo anti-hero who transformed into a creature of the night following a supernatural attack.
The character, who appeared in more than 80 comics, went on to feature in a line of video games, trading cards, posters, apparel and collectibles.
A host of top creators have tackled Shadowman in the past, including Marvel Comics Editor-in Chief Joe Quesada, Frank Miller, Steve Ditko, Garth Ennis and Rags Morales.
It is yet to be confirmed whether Shadowman will star in his own series, or guest star in a current Valiant title.
