Brian Azzarello has discussed the surprise appearance of the character on the last page of his most recent issue.
"I think Orion is such a fantastic character already," the writer told Newsarama when asked how he would be revamping the Jack Kirby creation.
"A guy that's driven by anger is a character I can totally get into. I can write that guy.
"But again, it's just Orion. And he's just going to be a guest star. Maybe. We'll see how it goes.
"I don't want to tease too much other than saying that I think Orion and Wonder Woman interacting together is going to be something that people enjoy."
Azzarello was quick to point out that the introduction of the character does not necessarily pave the way for the invasion of many New Gods into his title.
"Right now, all I'm interested in is Orion. Probably Highfather too. Kind of need him," he said.
"I'm not interested in dropping all the New Gods immediately into Wonder Woman. There's a pace that I have for this story, and I know some people don't like it. But other people do. So it's just, like, trust my pacing."
He said that the introduction of Orion was his idea and would not tie into the events involving the character's father Darkseid in DC Comics' flagship Justice League title.
In January, creator Ben Caldwell teased a Fourth World project he is working on for DC. The Fourth World titles were Kirby's 1970s creations that first introduced Orion and his fellow New Gods.
